Schools Website Design

Schools website design is something we love to do at Web Master, particularly web design for primary schools (we will work with secondary schools also, of course, so far however we have worked more with primary than secondary).

We started to focus on schools website design purely because we were so shocked to find that many schools websites, especially primary schools, were not very good… We found that some were well below par, and on speaking to the head teachers and other school staff we found that often it’s a case of having the time & resources, and of course the budget, to re-develop the school’s website. 

This is where we can help, we understand what is required in a schools website, and we can deliver fantastic websites for schools on even the more modest of budgets.

Sometimes we simply find that primary schools websites have been neglected in terms of being updated & moving with the times – for instance many schools have websites which look very narrow on the monitor, because a few years ago when the website was developed, the average monitor resolution was much smaller, this can also effect the quality of images and graphics. 

Often we have found that primary schools have opted to try to use their VLE as a new website, instead of re-developing their website, and are not happy with the VLE in this role, especially when it comes to ease of updating and visitor experience. VLE’s and websites are entirely different animals – a website is how schools plug into the internet, it’s often how first impressions are formed, for instance when parents are searching for information on local schools – schools websites need to be easy on the eye, easy to navigate, easy to update so that the website is kept bang up to date with various categories of information. Websites for schools need to be search engine friendly, so that parents in the local are find your school on Google, and they need to visually deliver the right impression to parents. This is what a good school website is all about, but this isn’t what a VLE is about.
